Updated: Road reopens following fatal crash in Longford



Update 3pm Saturday:

The N4 has reopened at Longford following a fatal road crash.

A 22 year old man was killed in the single vehicle crash which happened on the main road between Newtownforbes and Rooskey just before one o’clock this morning.

The road was closed for a number of hours with diversion in place.

The Gardai have confirmed that the N4 has now reopened in both directions.

Update 12 noon Saturday:

Gardai are warning motorists travelling to or from the North West today of a lengthy diversion at Longford for the next few hours following a fatal road crash.

A 22 year old man was killed in a crash on the main N4 between Newtownforbes and Rooskey.

The single vehicle crash happened just outside Newtownforbes at around 1am this morning.

The 22 year old driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road between the roundabout at Rooskey known as the Tomiskey roundabout and Newtownforbes is closed.

Traffic coming from the west is being diverted via Rooskey and Tarmonbarry.

While there is a longer diversion for traffic coming from Dublin which is being diverted out the N5 at Longford to Scramogue Cross and back into Rooskey.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the crash to contact them at Longford Garda Station.
