Sligo airport could close if it does not get Government funding



The future of Sligo Airport is at risk if the government fails to provide some funding towards it.

Sligo Airport has received no support from the government since 2011 and it relies almost entirely now on the Coastguard as its main customer.

Yesterday the Department of Transport announced funding for airports around the country including Waterford which like Sligo no longer offers a passenger carrier service.

The money was to support the retention of the Coastguard Search and Rescue Service there for the first half of 2018.
