Donegal Town cinema plans in doubt as developer fails to appeal planning decision



The developer of a proposed new cinema for Donegal Town has not appealed a decision to turn down his planning application.

The developer has confirmed that he has not appealed a decision to turn down planning permission.

Tyrone company WJ Dolan Construction Ltd had applied to Donegal Co Council in September for the construction of a five-screen cinema with 714 seats close to the Lidl store in Donegal Town.

The decision to refuse planning casued uproar locally and hundreds turned out to a public meeting last month.

The deadline for an appeal to An Bord Pleanala has passed, and a spokesperson for the company has confirmed to Ocean FM that they have not appealed the decision. They also said no decision has been made on whether they would submit a new planning application.

Planners refused planning permission in September saying the development would increase the amount of traffic at the junction with the N15, N56 and R267.

The development would have incuded a cinema, shop, restaurant and car park.
