Council states operation is to replace barrier ‘illegally’ removed earlier this year

An operation is underway at Connaughton road carpark in Sligo town.

It’s understood the operation is to put in barriers at the entrance to the carpark.

It’s being led by the Council with the support of Gardai.

The traveller families living at Connaughton road state they weren’t given any notification of the action by the Council which it’s understood has been ongoing since half past nine this morning.

In a statement to Ocean FM News, Sligo County Council states ‘the Council staff are simply replacing a height restriction barrier which was unlawfully removed by others earlier this year.’
