Sinn Fein is holding two selection conventions this weekend to select its Sligo/Leitrim candidates for the next general election.
It’s expected outgoing Deputy Martin Kenny will be selected for the Leitrim and North Roscommon part of the constituency at a convention on Friday night in The Bush Hotel in Carrick on Shannon.
And Chris MacManus is expected to be selected at another convention in Sligo on Sunday for the Sligo and South Donegal area.
In the last election, the same two candidates went forward for Sinn Fein, with Kenny being elected.
Asked by Ocean FM News about it being unusual for a party to hold two conventions for the one constituency, this was Deputy Kenny’s response:
