The Minister of State for Education says there’s not enough money to provide school transport for every child with a concessionary ticket.

If you live more than a certain number of kilometres from your nearest school you’re entitled to a place on the local school bus.

If you live nearer it depends on availability and those tickets are described as ‘concessionary’.

Sligo Leitrim TD Tony McLoughlin raised the issue in the Education Committee of the Dail recently.

Minister John Halligan says due to the dramatic increase in children with concessionary tickets, the Department simply doesn’t have the money to carry all of these children:
