Justice Minister admits Sligo Town Garda Station not fit for purpose



The Minister for Justice has said it’s a matter of regret that agreement cannot be reached on the location for a new Garda Station for Sligo Town.

As Gardai based there continue to refuse to enter their work premises on health and safety grounds, Minister Charlie Flanagan has again insisted the Government is committed to the provision of a new station.

Speaking on the controversy in the Dail, Minister Flanagan agrees that the current premises is unfit for purpose.

And he has now appealed to local stakeholders to join together to help procure a site for a new station…

The matter was raised by Fianna Fail leader, Micheal Martin, who said Gardai in Sligo were being forced to endure appalling and sub-standard conditions……
