Finn Valley Athletic Club Notes



The 2017 recipients of the Finn Valley ac Hall of Fame are husband and wife pair Bridgeen and Patsy Doherty ,Lurgybrack,Letterkenny . They will be inducted into the prestigious list at a dinner function in the Finn Valley Centre Dec 2nd . Both have a lifelong association with the club as athletes , committee and in a very positive support role continually since those early days in the 70s.Bridgeen nee Houston from Ard Mc Carron with her sister Susan was involved from day 1 and has acted in every capacity within the club structure in the interim to this day .Patsy a former Donegal senior x country champion a member of numerous winning Donegal and Ulster scoring winning teams and a member of a winning national winning team  in the marathon plus on a historic national winning Intermediate Finn Valley championship team .
Previous Hall Of Fame recipients have included Kay Byrne Peader Mc Granaghan Patsy Mc Ginley Patsy Mc Gonagle ,Mark Connolly ,Pat Hegarty ,Catriona Devine,Neil Martin and late John Carlin .
Tickets still available for the Dec 2nd event which is additionally an end of year get together to which members and parents are invited.

Three Finn Valley ac athletes competed for Ireland in Saturday’s annual British / Irish masters x country International in Derry namely Dermot Mc Elchar Kay Byrne and Noreen Bonner .

Dermot a recent recruit to the athletics scene only coming on board in recent years was one of two Donegal athletes in the o 40 team the other being Karol Duggan had an astounding run scoring on team 3rd Irish beating England and taking gold .Great excitement as what seemed like hundreds of Finn Valley clubmates had travelled the short distance to support including his wife Aine and extended family .
Kay Byrne back in action recently after a frustrating period of injury was on team placed second and thoughts went back to the world x country in Budapest some years ago Kays first international outing.
Noreen Bonner continued her recent good form  scoring on the winning  o 60 women team and what a few weeks its been for Noreen as in posting 3.27 in recent Dublin marathon winning her irish championship category she has been rewarded for focused hard training..Interestingly there was no wild celebrations after the event as all 3 turned out in the Remembrance 10k at valley Sunday morning…
