Government criticised for not ensuring that items linked to William Butler Yeats are kept in Sligo



The Mayor of Sligo has hit out at the government over its lack of support for ensuring items.

The Nobel Prize-winning poet is closely associated with the county and is buried in Drumcliffe.

Hundreds of items from the Yeats family collection were recently sold at two auction.

Cllr Hubert Keaney says neither Sligo County Council or the Yeats Society in Sligo has the money to buy such items when they go for public auctions:
