Boyle Celtic Football Club Notes

Sligo- Leitrim League, Girls U-12

Boyle Celtic 1

Ballymote Celtic 2

By Ronan Flanagan.

Boyle Celtic U-12 girls were unlucky to lose to near neighbours Ballymote Celtic on Saturday last at Celtic Park.

Both teams started well with the goalkeepers at each end hard to beat.

The away side opened the scoring after twenty three minutes. Some nice passing culminated in number seven finding the net.

Boyle pressed hard for an equaliser but the Ballymote defence was resolute. Half Time: Boyle Celtic 0 Ballymote Celtic 1.

Five minutes after the interval, Ballymote were awarded a penalty. Much to the relief of the Boyle players, the spot kick dragged wide of the goal.

The Boyle girls saw this as a chance to get a goal of their own. After multiple corners and chances, the net was finally bulged. Boyle’s number four fired a shot from outside the box which found the back of the net.

Both sides looked for a winner. Ballymote hit the post at one end while Boyle just missed the target.

However, in stoppage time after an interception in the Boyle box, there was to be heartbreak for the home side.

Ballymote broke at the pace down the right flank as Boyle chased hard. Number eight was expertly found with a weighted delivery and delicately scored from close range.

That was the last action of the match as it finished Boyle Celtic 1 Ballymote Celtic 2.
