Carbury and Merville knocked out of FAI Junior Cup

Strand Celtic were unable to grab their opportunity of putting pressure on Carbury at the top of the table in the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League. Their pitch at Strandhill was unplayable and the game reverted to Calry Bohs grounds at Hazelwood. On paper this was a banker for Strand flying high at the top of the leaderboard while Calry Bohs were languishing near the bottom. But Calry Bohs forgot to read the script and hammered home three goals courtesy of Paul Logan, Kevin Coen and Stephen McDermott while Matthew Conlon Oates scored a consolation goal for the sea siders.

Leitrim kingpins Manor Rangers welcomed Aughanagh Celtic to the Bee Park Manorhamilton a win here for the home side would again put them up as major title contenders but they fell by the odd goal in five to a more eager and committed Aughanagh Celtic who scored with a goal each from Stephen and Bryan Craig with a third courtesy of Marc Keegan. Seamus Ryder and Niall Walsh were on target for Manor.

Arrow Harps moved their game to Brother Walfrid Park and what a game it was with both sides eventually sharing the spoils in a cracker of a game. The big man Anthony Elding netting for Arrow Harps while Colin Duffy was on hand to fire home for Ballymote Celtic. Each side then scored an own goal that in the end seen them also share the points.

St John’s welcomed Ballisodare United to the astro at Cleveragh and found themselves three goals in arrears at the break thanks to Andrew Patton Stephen Fallon and Simon Gilmartin all hitting the back of the onion bag for a rampant Ballisodare United. St John’s picked up the pace in the second half with Conor Brennan netting ten minutes into the second half. St John’s hit the crossbar three times but it was six minutes from time when Stephen Armstrong got their second but it was just to little to late as Ballisodare controlled their area and saw the game out to take three great points.

in the Andrew Mullens Sligo Pallets Premier League Real Tubber continue their climb winning well away to a battling Coolaney United. Real Tubber were two goals up at the interval thanks to strikes from Brian Moran and Fabio Cretaro. Coolaney were right back in the game eight minutes into the second half when Johnathan Gilligan crashed home a superb goal. Things got worse for Real Tubber on sixty-five minutes when referee John Griffin gave Fabio Cretaro his marching orders. Coolaney were now pressing hard in search of that elusive equaliser but it was Real Tubber who struck with devastating effect five minutes from the end when Matthew Mulhern struck the all-important third goal that clinched the points for Real Tubber.

Cartron United maintain leadership at the top thanks to the scoring prowess of Kevin Buckley who scored the only two goals of the game against a hardworking and talented Benbulben FC at the Institute of Technology Ballinode Sligo.

North Sligo pace setters Cliffoney Celtic are keeping them under pressure hitting five without reply at home to Gurteen Celtic. Alan Harrison here in splendid form netting himself a fantastic hat trick with a goal each from Bartley Clancy and Eoin Hever.

Chaffpool United were hosts to Dromore Villa in an exciting six goal thriller that at the end seen both sides share the spoils. The Pool scored with strikes from Kevin Gallagher Padraig Murtagh and Fergus Leonard while the Villa replied with a hat trick from Stephen Feeney that insured the young guns of Drome Villa a great point.

In the FAI Junior Cup 4th Round Carbury FC went down by the odd goal three away to St Peters of Athlone after extra time while Merville United at home to last season’s Connacht Champions Ballinasloe Town were most unlucky. Going down to a penalty kick twelve minutes from time.
