Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran to visit Killybegs in the wake of recent flooding

The minister with responsibility for flooding says he will soon be visiting Killybegs in County Donegal to see the areas affected by recent floods there caused by heavy rain and high tides.

A number of premises in the town were affected earlier this month when the Glen River burst its banks, flooding Bridge Street, Shore Road and part of Roshine Road.

The gym at Fintra National School in the town was also flooded.

Minister Kevin Boxer Moran says the preferred flood prevention measures for Killybegs includes floodwalls and road raising.

He says this would protect about 70 properties at risk of flooding, including properties in Bridge Street.

However, the Killybegs Flood Relief Scheme will be subject to public consultation and assessment.

Minister Moran was responding to a Dail question from Donegal Fianna Fail TD Pat the Cope Gallagher, who says it’s important the pressure is kept on to ensure the necessary works are done:

He hopes the minister’s visit will help speed up the process:
