105 year old, Sister Mary Aidan Beirne, to be laid to rest tomorrow



One of the regions oldest residents is to be laid to rest tomoorow.

105 year old Sister Mary Aidan Beirne died in Hospital this week.

Sister Beirne served the Sisters of Mercy since the 8th of December, 1932, having gone through some of the most important times in modern history such as the 2nd World War, man landing on the moon and the fall of the Berlin wall

Sister Beirne was a fan of embroidery and crochet with her last project being to make cards to raise funds for the Patients Comfort Fund in St. John’s Hospital in Sligo, where she lived out the rest of her life.

Sister Aine McGarty spoke to Ocean FM and outlined what could have been Sister Mary Aidan Beirne’s secret to a long life:
