Report: Strandhill ‘The Calm before the Storm’



With the worst of Hurricane Ophelia expected this afternoon, coastal areas will be among the first affected.

One very exposed residential area in the North West is the coastal village of Strandhill in county Sligo, where Harry Keaney has been and has this report:

Forecaster Joan Blackburn says the North West is used to storms but structural damage will an issue in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim later:

Meanwhile, Vincent Nally is a Mayo man living in Sligo for many years.

He was in college in Dublin during Hurricane Debbie – the last such storm recorded here back in 1961.

Speaking to Ocean FM News in Sligo earlier this morning, he recounted how he thumbed back to the west of Ireland for a match in the eye of the storm.
