Letterkenny Athletics Club Notes

With the plethora of summer/early autumn road races now finished and a lull in the cross country season, there were very few Letterkenny AC runners in competitive action over the weekend.  Some put in a tough cross country training session on Saturday morning and many others ran their final long training run before the imminent Dublin Marathon. However, another group took in Saturday morning’s Letterkenny parkrun. Pol Mac Giolla Bhride finished 2nd in a time of 20.00. Paul Lee was 6th overall and 1st in the M50-54 category in 21.27. Paul had run 1.42.12 in the previous weekend’s Galway Bay Half Marathon.
Mark McFadden’s time of 21.45 was the fastest of the 5 parkruns he has run to date. Martin Temple clocked 22.52 in his first time doing the parkrun. Cathal Roarty was 2nd in the M50-54 category in 25.16.
Brendan Murphy followed up his recent fine performance in the Bangor 10K with an excellent run in the south of England. He ran 8K in the Surrey Cross Country League and crossed the line in 28.27.
Letterkenny AC’s annual New Mills 10K will be held on Sunday October 29th. The club is very grateful to Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure for the continued, generous sponsorship of the race. Full details of the event will be provided in next week’s club notes.
Another annual road race on the horizon is the Remembrance Day 10K, which starts at 11.00am on Sunday November 19th at the Finn Valley Centre.
The winning numbers in the LAC lotto draw on October 12th were: 10, 12, 15 and 23. There were no Match 4 winners. 1 Match 3 winner won €80- R.B.
