Mayoman living in Sligo elected honorary president of SIPTU



Three people from Sligo will at the helm of the country’s largest unions.

It follows the election last weekend of Padraig Peyton as honorary president of SIPTU.

He will succeed Jack O Connor, who is the outgoing fulltime general president of the union.

As a union president, Mr Peyton will join Sligoman Pat Fallon who is president of IMPACT and Martina Harkin Kelly, from Sligo, who is president of the irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

Mr Peyton, a native of Swinford, Co Mayo, has been living in Sligo since 1979.

He worked with Sligo Mental Health Services and is a former chairman of the Mayo Association in Sligo.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, he says he’s humbled and honoured to have elected as honorary president of SIPTU.
