Today marks the 60th anniversary of the last train from Collooney to Enniskillen.
On the 30th of September, 1957, the last train on the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway travelled from Collooney Co. Sligo to Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.
The SLNCR was created in 1875 and went from Collooney passing through such places as Ballintogher, Manorhamilton, Belcoo and more until it reached it’s final destination in Enniskillen.
The Great Northern Railway in Northern Ireland closed it’s line to Enniskillen which was the final nail in the coffin for the SLNCR and the line was the last private run railway to go in Ireland.
