Reaching out to people with busy lives is a challenge facing the historic Donegal pilgrimage site of Lough Derg where numbers have been steadily declining in recent years.
That’s according to the new Prior there, Fermanagh native, Fr. Laurence Flynn who is to take over the role from October.
His appointment is part of changes announced in the diocese of Clogher which also include confirmation that Fr. Ian Fee, Curate in Bundoran-Ballyshannon and Fr. Alan Ward, of Finner Camp are both to take leave.
Speaking to Ocean FM News today, Fr. Flynn says he is looking forward to the move to Lough Derg and as Administrator of the parish of Pettigo.
But he says that Lough Derg has not been immune to modern day trends and its three day pilgrimage in particular has seen declining numbers in recent years.
He says connecting with people in the busy contemporary world will be a challenge facing his new team:
