Sligo councillors want their county to benefit from Knock Airport zone

Sligo councillors want to ensure their county benefits from new plans for Ireland West International Airport at Knock, Co Mayo.

They say a special development zone being set up by Mayo County Council around the airport should focus on the entire region.

Sligo Fianna Fail Councillor Jerry Lundy raised the issue at a meeting of Sligo County Council this month.

He wants Sligo to have a key role in the development and promotion of the area around the airport, particularly as Sligo is a financial contributor to it.

Councillor Lundy is hoping the proposed new zone around the airport will bring jobs and business to Sligo, particularly to the south and west of the county that borders Mayo.
