Renewable energy, tourism and creative sector in the West can create more jobs



The head of the Western Development Comission says renewable energy is an area the West of Ireland needs to look more seriously at in order to develop the local economy.

The first meeting of the new Board of the WDC took place on Friday and was attended by the Minister for Rural and Community development, Michael Ring.

The Minister said he was confident he had put a good team together and is excited to see what they can bring to his native west of Ireland region.

The WDC was formed in 1998 to promote the benefits of ‘living, working and doing business’ in the region.

Acting CEO, Ian Brannigan, says that there are many challenges ahead but he says tourism, the creative sector and renewable energy are sectors that need to be developed more here to create jobs:
