A Leitrim Councillor says prescription charges are a tax and should be abolished



A Leitrim Councillor says prescription charges are a tax and people should not be fooled into thinking they are anything else.

At present, anyone with a medical card has to pay €2.50 for a prescription with a maximum of €25 per month allocated per person or family.

It’s reduced to €2 with a cap of €20 for people over 70 years of age.

Sinn Fein Councillor in Leitrim Padraig Fallon has called on these charges to be removed.

He says it’s simply another tax and claims that it aims to reduce the over-use of medication is false:
