Claims people cannot take up jobs because of delays in driving tests



A number of Sligo councillors are claiming that some young people are not able to take up jobs because of the delay in getting a driving test.

Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey is now calling on the county council to write to the Road safety Authority asking for an explanation for the delay which, he says, is now more than six months.

Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Hubert Keaney says recruiting more testers would be self-financing because of the money paid by those taking the tests.

He says the waiting time should be down to a week.

Cllr Mulvey says the situation is partidcularly affecting young people trying to get jobs and who need a full licence:
