Sligo-man wins gold at European Lifesaving Championships

Sligo-man Joseph Mooney has claimed a gold medal for Ireland at the European Livesaving Championships in Belgium.

The Drumcliffe native, who is a lifeguard in Sligo, partnered Dubliner David Butler to gold in the Line Throw event in Brugge, with the French team finishing second, and Sweden third.

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Councillor Seamus Kilgannon said: “This is a great achievement by Joseph and is fully deserved for his hard work and dedication over many years. The fact that he is a lifeguard with Sligo County Council makes it an additional source of pride for the members and staff of the council.”
