Sligoman in court again on stabbing-related charge

A 40-year old father of five is to appear before Harristown District Court in Castlerea, Co Roscommon, this morning (Friday) as a result of a serious stabbing incident in Sligo town two weeks ago.

Michael Sweeney, of Old Bundoran Road, in Sligo, has been in custody, since he appeared at a special sitting of Letterkenny Distrtict Court last Saturday evening.

He was arrested after an incident in Crozon Park in which another man was seriously injured.

A woman was also injured, as was the accused himself.

All three were treated in Sligo University Hospital.

Armed gardai were on patrol at the hospital after the incident for fear of reprisals or injury to the public.
