Meeting planned to try and increase access to MacDiarmada homestead

North Leitrim councillors are to meet with officials of the Office of Public Works next month in an effort to find a resolution to the issue of tourist and visitor access to the home of Sean MacDiarmada in Kiltyclogher.

This follows a visit to Kiltyclogher yesterday by the minister with responsibility for the OPW, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran.

There have been complaints this year that the house, in Corranmore, was not open at all times when people came to see it.

The house is also a key stop on a locally-organised tour of north Leitrim.

Now, a meeting between local councillors and the OPW is to take place before the next Manorhamilton Municipal Distrtict meeting of the council on September 18th.

Fine Gael Councillor Sean McDermott told Ocean FM News that Minister Moran said if councillors are still unhappy, they may come back to his office.

Councillor McDermott has described the house as ‘the jewel in the crown’ when it comes to promoting north Leitrim and attracting tourists to the area.
