Farmers say UHT milk is the future if retailers fail to charge a fair price for milk



Farmers have been protesting outside Aldi in Portlaoise today about the price that the supermarket is charging for milk on a new special offer.

IFA President Joe Healy spoke at the rally which was attended by about 150 people.

The IFA says it creates a kind of a price war between supermarkets on milk and the farmer is always the loser.

John Finn, the IFA Liquid Milk Committee Chairman spoke to me earlier and outlined the exact reason they held today’s protest:
