TD claims waiting lists are growing because the HSE is not replacing staff on leave

A TD in the North West claims that waiting lists for children and adults to see occupational therapists are growing because of a failure by the HSE to provide cover for leave.

Figures released to SF TD Martin Kenny reveal that 155 children and 287 adults in the Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan and South Donegal area waiting to be seen by an occupational therapist.

Almost 100 of the 155 children and more than half of the adults are waiting more than three months.

The therapists help people to do everyday tasks when faced with difficulties such as illness, injury, disability or other challenges.

Deputy Kenny says the problem is that the HSE is not providing cover for staff when they go on leave.
