No joy for Taheny or Ireland in Taiwan

There was disappointment for Sligo’s Ross Taheny and the Ireland men’s university team in Taiwan this morning.

They lost 3-0 to South Africa in their play-off tie.

The Ballinamallard clubman played the full 90 minutes for the fourth successive game at the tournament.

Tomorrow Leitrim’s Ailbhe Clancy and Donegal’s Amber Barrett and Niamh McLaughlin will be part of the Irish women’s team for their play-off game against Chinese Taipei.

Meanwhile, Leitrim referee Emma Cleary was back on duty at the Uefa Women’s Champions League in Montenegro this afternoon.

She was assistant once again to Irish referee Paula Brady for the meeting of Serbian side Spartak Subotica and Breznica of Slovenia.

The Manorhamilton native made her first appearance in a Champions League tie on Tuesday, and will be on duty again next Monday in the final qualifying game from Group 9.
