Lyttle delighted that Roddan is proving him wrong

Sligo Rovers boss Gerard Lyttle has admitted he is delighted that midfielder Craig Roddan has earned his confidence in the Bit O’ Red’s survival battle.

Roddan dropped out of Lyttle’s plans after a poor start to the season, but regained his place for the draw with reigning champions Dundalk at the end of July, and was his side’s best player for the past two matches.

The former club captain will miss Rovers’ next league game – away to Finn Harps in the middle of September – as he must serve a one-match ban following his late sending-off in the defeat of Cork City last time out.

And Lyttle told SligoRovers.com that he has changed his opinion of Roddan following his resurgence…

Rovers have no game this weekend, as round two of the FAI Cup takes place.

Longford, the side that knocked Rovers out, are away to Bangor Celtic this evening, while holders Cork City entertain Athlone Town; St. Patrick’s Athletic face Galway United; Cobh Wanderers take on Drogheda United; Bluebell United meet Cabinteely and Owen Heary’s Shelbourne take on Shamrock Rovers.

Finn Harps journey to the Markets Field tomorrow to take on Limerick.

Meanwhile, Sligo Rovers and Finn Harps’ three underage sides are all in action this weekend.

All three of Rovers’ sides face Longford Town, with the U15s in action at Sean Fallon Park tomorrow at 2pm in their first ever home game.

The U19s are also at home at 2pm on Sunday, while the U17s will travel to City Calling Stadium at the same time.

Harps’ U15 side face Cavan-Monaghan away at 2pm on Sunday, while the U17s are at home to leaders St Patrick’s Athletic tomorrow at 2pm, following their 5-0 defeat of Rovers midweek.

Harps’ U19s are due to face St Pat’s away this weekend.
