Emergency funding to be provided to Donegal residents

The Department of Social Protection is to provide emergency funds to Donegal residents affected by the flooding.

Around 200 homes were destroyed and bridges and roads were washed away when 80 mm or rain fell in just a few hours on Tuesday night.

However the Department has not released details of how much money has been made available but says it will come for its Humanitarian Assistance Fund.

It has activated the fund which provides money for essential goods and household items. It says it is demand led and there’s no cap on the amount that can be paid to each individual household.

Anyone in need of assistance is asked to contact their local social welfare office or the department of social protection.
