Drainage of Owenmore River to be a ‘pilot project’



The dredging of the Owenmore River in south Sligo will be a pilot programme in terms of tackling flooding.

Chairperson of the Committee PJ Hannon has welcomed the move which was confirmed to them at a meeting with Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran yesterday.

A survey of the river is now to take place over four weeks, starting from September 4th.

And Mr Hannon said the minister promised there will be funding for the drainage work from the OPW.

He added that the committee was very happy after the meeting with Minister Moran.
