Donegal emigrant considers moving back after hearing Kiltyclogher appeal

A Donegal-born emigrant who left the country almost 20 years ago says he would consider moving back to a rural area like Kiltyclogher.

Francis Donoghue, who has been in the United States since 2002, a former teacher himself, has four young children, is now considering returning home to Ireland, and possibly to Kiltyclogher.

Kiltyclogher is danger of losing one of its two teachers at the local if there are not more pupils and it launched a campaign to try and attract more people back to the local area.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Mr Donoghue revealed he had even written to Education Minister Richard Bruton, telling him of how he was thinking of returning to Ireland:

Mr. Donoghue has also called for every effort be made to save schools and teachers in rural villages, such as in Kiltyclogher in Co. Leitrim.

He says if schools in rural villages are allowed close, it would be a death sentence for those villages.

Mr Donoghue, a former teacher himself, has four young children aged 9 to 13, is now considering returning home to Ireland, and possibly to Kiltyclogher.

He himself has studied online for an MBA.

Kiltyclogher is not in danger of its school closing but rather of losing one of its two teachers if there are not more pupils.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Mr Donoghue revealed he had even written to Education Minister Richard Bruton, telling him of how he was thinking of returning to Ireland.
