Sligo Cllr hits out at latest housing proposals as highlighting the government failure on the issue



An Independent Sligo councillor has hit at the government over what he says is its continued failure to provide adequate funding to local councils to build housing.

Michael Clarke was responding to proposals announced yesterday by Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy to deal with the housing crisis.

Among the proposals was reusing existing housing for rural resettlement.

And there was also a suggestion that the Fair Deal scheme for nursing home residents could be tweaked to encourage them to rent out their homes.

But Cllr Clarke branded the latest proposals as nothing more than a camouflage:
