Naming ceremony for O’Boyle Park in Sligo this lunchtime

A ceremony is taking place in Sligo this lunchtime to mark the naming of Forthill Park as O’Boyle Park.

It’s being named after the late Councillor Seamie O Boyle, who died two years ago.

The ceremony is taking place at the gates of the park, just off Connaughton Road.

Among those present are members of the O Boyle family, the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Cllr Seamus Kilgannon, local councillors including the late Cllr O Boyle’s son Gino who was co-opted to fill his seat, and Noel Kennedy, Sligo of the Sligo-Leitrim and District Soccer League.

The park is home of Glenview Stars FC.

Aged 57, the late Cllr O Boyle was a member of People Before Profit and played a key role in many community activities.
