Gardaí investigating fatal accident close to Charlestown



Gardaí in Claremorris are investigating a fatal road traffic collision in which a man in his 20s was killed yesterday afternoon.

The incident took place close to Carracastle on the old Charlestown to Ballaghaderreen road.

There was no other vehicle involved in the incident.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Claremorris Garda Station on 094 9372080.

It was the second death on the region’s roads this weekend. A man in his early thirties was killed near Mohill in County Leitrim after his motor cycle was involved in a collision with a car yesterday morning.

It’s understood the man is from County Sligo.
