People urged to stay safe on the roads and near water this weekend



16 per cent of motorists under 24 admit to drinking and driving in the past year.

New RSA figures show that 10 per cent of all motorists say they’ve drank and drove in the past 12 months.

95 people have lost their lives on our roads so far this year and Gardai are warning people that they’ll be breathalysed if they’re caught committing any traffic offence.

Meanwhile, People are being reminded to stay safe near water this Bank Holiday weekend.

The August Bank Holiday weekend is one of the busiest for holidays and many people take to the beaches and the water.

Last year 123 people died in our waterways – the majority of them men.

Earlier today, Irish Water Safety is urging people to only use beaches with lifeguards.
