More than 40 New York police officers will be visiting Sligo and Leitrim in the coming days



More than 40 New York police officers will be visiting Sligo and Leitrim in the coming days.

They are members of the New York Police Department Emerald Society and will be led by their president, Peter Whalen.

It’s a return trip to a previous visit to New York by gardai from Sligo and Leitrim.

The New York police officers will be in the region for a number of days.

This Monday, they will afforded a civic reception in City Hall in Sligo by the County Council Cathaoirleach, Seamus Kilgannon.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Cllr Kilgannon says the events reflects the close links between the North West and the NYPD and the many Irish who have served in the force:
