Bank protest in Ballymote at lunchtime today



A protest in Ballymote this lunchtime will call for a special case to be made for the provision of bank services in the South Sligo town

The protest will take place outside the Bank fo Ireland branch, where traditional over-the-counter services are to end and an ‘advice and self-service’ system is being introduced.

Bank of Ireland says staff will still be available to help customers and it points out only 3% of customer transactions are now done over the counter.

Some years ago, Allied Irish Bank closed its branch in Ballymote and next month, Ulster Bank will also close its branch.

Today’s protest is being organised by Sinn Fein.
