Rovers’ new signings all cleared to feature in St Pat’s game

Sligo Rovers’ recent signings have all been given clearance to play for the Bit O’ Red.

It’s a huge boost for the side as they prepare to face St Patrick’s Athletic in a crunch relegation six-pointer at the Showgrounds on Saturday.

Attackers Omar Haughton, Greg Moorhouse, Vinny Faherty and Jamie McDonagh all signed deals at the Showgounds last weekend, and all come straight into boss Gerard Lyttle’s squad for the game against the Saints.

With Raff Cretaro returning a ban, and Seamus Sharkey and John Russell also likely to come back into contention, it leaves Lyttle with strength in-depth.

Lyttle says that McDonagh’s ability to play in a couple of positions is a big plus…

Lyttle has also admitted that he had to fend off interest from Coventry City and Cork City to sign striker Moorhouse.

The former Glenavon frontman had been on trial with Coventry, and Cork boss John Caulfield wanted him as a replacement for top-scorer Seani Maguire, who has moved to Preston.

But Moorhouse opted for the Showgrounds instead, much to the delight of the Rovers boss…

Saturday’s game kicks-off at 7.45pm, and will be live on Ocean FM in association with Cannings Spar House & Garden.
