Ballygawley Post Office approved for new smart current account



Ballygawley Post Office in Sligo is one of 250 nationally that has been approved for a new smart current account.

It comes as the standoff between the Irish Postmasters Union and the government over the future of small post offices continues.

The IPU want the recommendations of the Kerr report to be implemented an in effort to modernise and increase revenue for post offices but the union states the government has done nothing and it has currently pulled out of the negotiations.

Today, Chairperson of the Save Ballygawley Post campaign Thomas Walsh is welcoming the move by An Post to introduce the new current accounts which he says is at least a step in the right direction in protecting the future of small post offices:
