Bill to allow breweries sell alcohol to visitors

A Donegal TD says the Government’s decision to progress a bill which would allow breweries and distilleries sell alcohol to people touring their facilities will both create employment and attract further tourism to the county.

The bill provides for the automatic grant by revenue commissioners of a licence authorising the sale of alcohol produced on the premises to visitors at craft breweries and distilleries.

The sales can only take place between 10am and 6pm.

However the breweries will have to apply to the court for a certificate before a license can be granted.

Minister Joe McHugh said the progress of the bill will attract more people to the region and will also help job growth in areas such as Sliabh Liag where a new distillery is being constructed.
