‘No improvement in mental health services for young people’

A Sligo/Leitrim TD says that despite months of campaigning, there has been no real improvement in adolescent mental health services in the region.

Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny was speaking after members of the ‘Our Voices Their Future’ group from the region visited Leinster House yesterday.

They met with Sinn Fein Senator Marie Devine, a former psychiatric nurse for more than 20 years and who has a special interest in mental health services.

Deputy Kenny says the same problems — such as no full-time adolescent psychiatrists and lengthy waiting times — continue.

He described the ongoing situation as ‘shambolic.’
