Mountbatten’s late daughter to be remembered in Mullaghmore at the weekend

93-year old Patricia Knatchbull, better known as Countess Mountbatten or Lady Braebourne, who died recently in England, will be remembered in North Sligo this weekend.

She was the daughter of Lord Louis Mountbatten.

She lost one of her twin 14-year old sons and needed more than 100 stitches to her face as a result of the boat bomb that killed her father in Mullaghmore in 1979.

Her mother-in-law died later from her injuries.

A memorial Mass will be offered for the countess this Saturday in the Star of the Sea Church in Mullaghmore by Fr Christy McHugh, parish priest of Ahamlish.

John Barry, whose mother and brothers worked for the Mountbattens in Mullaghmore, says it will be an opportunity for the community to remember her.
