Donegal’s newest county councillor says his number one aim is to fight for the needs of the people in his area, from Bundoran to Glencolmcille.

Fianna Fail’s Michael Naughton was co-opted onto the council at its monthly meeting in Lifford yesterday to fill the seat left vacant by the death last April of Cllr Sean McEniff.

Cllr Naughton was proposed for the position by Fianna Fail Councillor Ciaran Brogan, and seconded by Independent Councillor Seamus O’Domhnaill.

At a Fianna Fail nomination convention over a week ago, he defeated a number of others seeking the position, including the late Cllr McEniff’s daughter.

After his formal co-option yesterday, Cllr Naughton outlined to Ocean FM News what his priorities will be:
