Former Sligo Senator expresses interest in running for Dail

A former Fine Gael senator from Sligo has indicated her interest in running for the Dail — if a vacancy became available in the Sligo/Leitrim constituency.

Imelda Henry served in the Seanad from April 2011 to April last year.

The Sligo publican, who runs the well-known Blue Lagoon premises, served on the Industrial and Commercial Panel, having been nominated by the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland.

She was first elected to Sligo County Council in 2004, succeeding her father Peter Henry who had been on the Council for the previous 14 years.

She has been a staunch advocate of lifting the ban on alcohol sales on Good Friday.

During an interview on today’s North West Today Show on Ocean FM, she was asked if she would be interested in running for the Dail.
