Post masters protest over government ‘inaction’



The Irish Post Masters’ Union is turning up the pressure over what it says is the government’s inaction on the future of post offices.

The union is to hold a major protest at the Department of Communications in Dublin at noon today.

It’s also to withdraw from ongoing talks with An Post, which have been underway since May.

In addition, it will not cooperate with the rollout of the new An Post Smart Account.

In this region, there has been concern about the future of a number of post offices, most notably in Ballygawley in County Sligo, and Blacklion, Co Cavan, where the post office has closed.

Padraig McNamara, the western representative of the Irish Post Masters’ Union, has been telling Ocean FM News why they are now taking the latest action:
