Acting U.S. ambassador to visit Sligo

The acting American Ambassador to Ireland will visit Sligo tomorrow for a two day visit.

Reece Smyth, who took over the role from Kevin O’Malley in January, is visiting the county to coincide with the Yeats International Summer School, which gets underway on Thursday evening.

Mr Smyth will meet with members of management at Abbot’s in the Finisklin Business Park before moving on to the Hawk’s Well Theatre for the summer school launch.

The ambassador will then meet with Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Seamus Kilgannon on Friday morning for a brief meeting. His visit to the North West will finish with a visit to Lissadell House, where he will be given a tour of a 1916 exhibition.

Martin Enright, of the Yeats Society, says the ambassador’s visit is appropriate due to the large number of American students who attend the summer school. He also points out the various links between Yeats and the US.
