The need for a cardiac catheterisation laboratory at Sligo University Hospital to treat heart patients in the north west will be part of a national review of cardiac services.
That’s according to Sligo/Leitrim Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin following a meeting with Health Minister Simon Harris.
The review is to be done by an outside international expert.
Cardiac catheterization is a procedure used to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions.
At present, only a mobile, part-time service is provided in Sligo.
Deputy McLoughlin says he now thinks the minister recognises the need for a full-time, fixed laboratory in Sligo that will serve a wide surrounding area:
