Planning refused for new Lidl store in Carrick on Shannon

The German discount giant Lidl hopes to open a new store in Sligo.

But it has ran into planning obstacles in Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim, where more people from south and east Sligo areas have recently been doing their shopping.

Lidl had hoped to move from its current store on the Cortober, Co Roscommon side of Carrick on Shannon, to a site on the Dublin side of the town, where Aldi and Tesco are also located.

But Leitrim County Council rejected the planning application.

It was a decision welcomed by County Council Cathoirleach Finola Armstrong McGuire and business owners in Carrick on Shannon, among them Joe Dolan of the Bush Hotel.
