IFA president calls for increase in CAP budget



IFA President Joe Healy has said that the delivery of a strong, sustainable,and competitive Irish agriculture sector requires an increase in the CAP budget.

Mr Healy said that in discussions on the future of the EU budget, strenghtening existing common policies, such as the Common Agricultural Policy, is critical to securing a string future for the EU and to demonstrate the positives of EU membership to citizens.

Hr Healy said there is a tough negotiatin road ahead but said that Irish EU Agriculture Commisioner, Phil Hogan understood agriculture and a government that is aware of the importance to the Irish economy.

The IFA President concluded by saying that EU member states must take into account the need for adequate funding to support the many economic, social and environmental benefits that are delivered through CAP.
